So we've been busy, busy, busy little bees.   Unless your  allergic to bees; in that case we've just been busy, full stop.   We've just completed two jobs in the Sunset and for the first time in a very long time, we can actually see the Sunset.  The weather in San Francisco has been nothing short of glorious with temps reaching low 90's in some areas.  It makes painting exteriors all the more pleasurable.

One of the projects was a stucco and paint job on Santiago Street.
We used Kelly Moore stock colors to blend them to get the perfect shade for our client, and it looks really polished.   Our client has amazing taste and when it came time to renovate and update their home's exterior, they contacted us to help the process.  But the rockin' thing about this particular job was that we applied GOLD LEAF to the top of the exterior columns.

That's right baby, freakin' 24 carat gold leaf imported from Italy.  How pimpin' is that?

We get our gold leaf from a company called Art Essentials of New York.  Pearl Painting has used them for years, we consider them a trusted supplier.

For those of you who aren't familiar with applying gold leaf, it's a bit of a delicate process.  You get the gold leaf in sheets, that are feather light, it tears ridiculously easily.  And 24 carat gold leaf sheets are not cheap, so we are very methodical and precise about the application.  You prep an area by apply a bonding agent or a sizing.   Then you use a gilder's tip brush (a small, flat, soft bristle brush that looks like a paint brush) to pick up a sheet of the gold leaf and actually place and then push the gold leaf on the item's surface.  It made such a difference to the column, and enhances the entire facade so beautifully.  It's a beautiful detail on this project - and I will upload photos of this soon.  In the meantime,  enjoy the rest of this fabulous weather.
